Dr. Nigro was born in Thunder Bay and completed her undergraduate degree at Lakehead University, obtaining an Honours Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. She then received her dental degree from McGill University in Montreal, graduating in 2010.

Upon earning her DMD degree, she completed a 3 year residency in Periodontics at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine. Her residency allowed her to provide her patients with comprehensive treatments in periodontal and implant surgery.

After completing her residency in Periodontics, Dr. Nigro returned to Thunder Bay to join Dr. Frank Mauro as an associate at his practice. This would be an invaluable learning experience for Dr. Nigro and after 4 years would lead to her taking over ownership of the practice and renaming it Thunder Bay Periodontics.

In her private life, Dr. Nigro enjoys spending time with her three children, Giuliana, Jack, and Cameron, her husband Tom, and their dog Sophie.

Born and raised in Thunder Bay, Dr. Mauro started his post secondary education at Lakehead University. After 2 years of a biology program he was accepted into the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto. Upon graduation in 1987, he returned to Thunder Bay where he started practicing as a general dentist.

In 1996 Dr Mauro decided to pursue a three year specialty training in Periodontics at the University of Toronto. As part of his Masters Degree program, Dr. Mauro's thesis evaluated various forms of artificial bone material used to assist in regeneration of human bone.

Dr. Mauro returned to Thunder Bay in 1999 to establish a private practice in the specialty of Periodontics and Implant therapy. He is a former clinical instructor at the Faculty of Dentistry in Toronto and part-time clinical instructor at Confederation College Dental Hygiene Program. He is active at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, Department of Dentistry.

Dr Mauro enjoys being a true Northern Ontarian, seeking thrills riding his bike through the winter and summer trails.
